Quartet of Golds Secures World Place
Report by Fef Griffin
A great performance by Courtney Tulloch, (Pegasus Gymnastics) in leading the British Team to victory in the International event Coupe Avenir in Malmedy, Belgium at the weekend has won the youngster selection to the World School Games in Quatar.
Hard on the heels of his success in the National Championships, Courtney had only four days to regroup and trouble-shoot his routines before the Belgium competition.
Much improved work on Vault and High Bar helped him break the magic 80 mark total for the first time but errors on dismounts from Pommel and Parallel Bars cost Courtney a place in the Finals on these apparatus.
However he qualified on the remaining four, Floor, Rings, Vault and High Bar. A wise decision to opt out of High Bar to concentrate on just three apparatus, enabled Courtney to gain Gold on both Floor and Rings also taking 4th place on Vault. No opportunity is ever lost with team mate Anthony Wise from South Essex taking his place on High Bar and silver medal position.
A clean sweep for the British Under 14 team which took, Team Gold, Individual Gold (Courtney) and all six apparatus Golds in such a diverse and talented field is testament to the World standing of our Men’s Artistic gymnasts: “It was a great venue and the competition was good as well” said Tulloch. “I didn’t expect to be competing against people like the Russians and I’m very pleased to have won.” He added.
