Dover gymnast stars on Big Screen

Becky Skelton being filmed

A young gymnast and volunteer coach from Dover Gymnastics Club is now starring on big screens across the country.

15-year-old Becky Skelton who is a pupil at St Edmunds School in Dover was selected to take part in a special filming project to mark the countdown to the London Olympics in 2012.

Young people involved in sport have been filmed for 90 second interviews focusing on their ambitions over the next 1000 days, as 31 October marked the 1000 day countdown to the 2012 games.

The interviews are being shown on big screens across the country, including the one in Dover's Market Square.

Becky is a Young Ambassador for the Dover District School Sport Partnership (SSP) and was selected by her SSP co-ordinator John Castle as the natural choice for the film.

Becky has been a member of Dover Gymnastics Club for nearly 10 years and still competes, training with her recreational four piece squad.

Becky started coaching younger gymnasts when she was just 13 and is working towards becoming a fully qualified coach.

She was recently interviewed for ITV's Meridian Tonight programme and Kent's Heart FM who both asked her about her ambitions: "I have some brilliant older coaches to look up at Dover Gym Club and my ambition is to develop my skills and carry on coaching. I would eventually like to become a Physiotherapist." Said Becky.

"I love helping the younger children and seeing them progress from beginners into confident gymnasts and really enjoying their sport. I find volunteering very rewarding." She added.
