London 2012 approaches…..
This week sees a whole host of gymnastics competitions at the London O2 Arena as the last remaining Olympic qualifications places are decided for London 2012. Some of the places have already been secured by results at various World Championship competitions, but the last thirty places in are being fought for at this weeks "London Prepares" Test Event. The Event, a dress rehearsal for the Olympics as well as a final Qualification Event has GB interest with The Mens Artistic Team competing for a place. Our Women have already Qualified as has our Womens Trampoline contenders.
So, for many countries this event is make or break time - they will either participate at the Olympics ….or not!
In preparation, four of the competing countries have been training at the Jumpers Rebound Centre in Gillingham - home of GB Trampolining and the largest UK trampoline club, Gillingham Jumpers. This week, Canada, USA, Portugal and Team GBR have all been polishing their routines as they build-up to the main event. If the countries qualify the Centre expects the teams to return to Gillingham for pre-Olympic training camps along with Australia and several European countries who have already qualified.
Team USA
Team Canada
This is a massive endorsement of the facilities available at the Jumpers Rebound Centre and shows clearly that Medway has plenty on offer to the Olympic Games!
Martin Laws, Managing Director of the Centre said "I'm proud that we can fly the flag and attract major countries to Kent as part of the London 2012 Games. This shows that we are at world class level and can showcase both Jumpers Rebound Centre and Great Britain. We have worked hard to attract these teams and our efforts are now paying off. It is vital to bring the countries base camps to the area if we are to maximise the benefits of London 2012. We are now seeing snowballing effect as other countries try to follow the leaders….so here we come 2012!"
