The Weald of Kent Gymnastics Club hosted a 'grass roots' Floor & Vault gymnastics competition on Sunday 20 November at Kent College Pembury with 280 boys and girls aged 6 to 14 years, all from Kent.

This competition is unique in Kent in that it brings together gymnast from clubs, schools and leisure centres to compete together and is a golden opportunity for young gymnasts to gain experience and find their feet in the competitive arena.

The local gymnasts competing were from Kent College Gymnastics Academy, Tonbridge Girls Grammar school, Sevenoaks and Chiddingstone primary schools, the Angel leisure Centre, Tunbridge Wells Gymnastics Club, Dartford Gymnastics Club and of course a large number from the Weald of Kent Gymnastics Club. Coming from further afield in Kent were gymnasts from Canterbury and Thanet Gym Clubs.

A total of 94 medals - Gold, Silver and Bronze were awarded during the day and there were so many gymnasts competing in some age groups that medal groups were split into those born in just 2 or 3 months in the year! The club welcomed the Deputy Mayor of Tonbridge and Malling Dave Davis in the afternoon to watch and present medals.

Between the five rounds the audience were entertained by displays of sports acrobatics, floor routines and competitive skipping performed by the older Weald gymnasts.

A full list of medals showing all winners from the clubs, schools and Leisure Centre is published on the club's website www.wealdgymnastics.org.uk

Send us all your club's news and we will feature it on these pages.
